Setting up the greenscreen

Mark came over, set up a greenscren, and we shoot video.

Ah, the pleasure of actually making a movie!

One thing we hadn’t anticipated was how much the model would vibrate under full power.  Probably should have loaded it with lead.

Instead of lead, however, we found we could get pretty good stabilization by stringing threads all around it and keeping everything taut.

Got some good shots — looking forward to keying out the background, and integrating it with the

stuff I’ve been working on.

Someone was asking me why the model was upside down. There’s two very good reasons for this.

The first reason is that while in flight, the blades of the Sikorsky do, in fact, bend upwards, so by shooting it upside down, we try to get a matching bend.

The second reason is that it would be a huge pain to have the control lines feed out and THEN up past the whirling blades (you can’t see it in the picture, but those blades are going like gangbusters). So, the control lines come out the belly and double as the helicopter’s main support.

We’ve attached a number of threads to the beast to do more detailed tricks and moves.
